The CW hasn’t officially canceled
Everybody Hates Chris, but executive producer Chris Rock and the cast are ready to call it quits after the Season 4 finale.
The story line on the May 8 episode mirrors Chris’ real-life decision to drop out of school in the 10th grade to pursue a career in stand-up comedy. “Chris Rock didn’t graduate high school and started comedy when he was, like, 17 years old,” explains the show’s dad, Terry Crews. “Our Chris is now a sophomore in high school, so the timing is lining up pretty well. Once he becomes a comedian, the show’s over. You can just go get Chris Rock’s DVD.”
Tyler James Williams (Chris), who is now 16 and hopes to enroll as an NYU film student, says the final scene will likely take place after his character completes a high-school equivalency exam. “An envelope arrives,” Tyler says. “But before we find out the results, we fade to black. If it ends here, we ended it the right way.” The real Rock, now 44, agrees: “It might not be a bad way to go.”
