Zooey Deschanel “Excited” for Bones’ Sister Act
by Matt Webb Mitovich  September 11, 2009 12:47 PM EST

Emily Deschanel says that her sister, indie film queen Zooey Deschanel ("500 Days of Summer"), is very much looking forward to finally appearing on Fox’s Bones this season.

“I was emailing with her the other day [and] I know she’s excited about it,” Emily tells TV Guide Magazine. “So hopefully it will work out.”

Bones boss Hart Hanson hopes to book the younger Deschanel for Season 5's 10th episode, a Christmastime outing which will present a family reunion in more ways than one.

“[Zooey] will play Brennan’s closest blood relative, not counting her dad or her brother – one that she hasn’t met before,” Hanson teases.

To help make the necessary introductions, sources say that Ryan O’Neal may be called upon to reprise his role as Bones’ father.

Emily Deschanel points out that her sister’s guest-star gig “is not confirmed” and could be waylaid by Zooey’s busy film and music careers.

“We have tried this before, and she has a very unpredictable schedule,” Emily explains. “Something could come up and she’ll be like, ‘Sorry!’”

Hanson, however, is resigned to making this sister act happen: “One day [Zooey] is going to be on this show!”

Bones premieres Thursday, Sept. 17, at 8/7c.
