Stars Come Out for the Governor's Ball
By William Keck  September 21, 2009 08:06 AM EST

The theme was "Xanadu" for this year's Governors Ball, with giant colorful paper lanterns hovering above the dinner tables like enormous jewels."I feel like I'm on a cruise ship with Captain's Tables all over the place," observed one of the evening's presenters, Bones star David Boreanaz, who pointed to the band playing on a revolving stage in the center of the room. "I wonder who has the remote control for that—maybe we can speed it up a bit."

24's president Cherry Jones was among the first to enter the party with her Emmy in hand. "I'm at an age where I can just enjoy this," said Jones, whose majority of work has been done on the New York stage. "I'm a middle aged woman who just wandered into this town and have been received with such open arms."

After making the press rounds as one of the stars of the newly crowned Best Drama Series, Mad Men's January Jones was looking to relax and sample the filet mignon with polenta ravioli. "It's nice to finally eat after that long ceremony," said Jones. "We're all so grateful."

Sarah Silverman was receiving praise for her hilarious on-camera sight gag (donning a mustache just before her face was broadcast as one of the evening's comedy nominees). "I was shooting an episode where I was wearing a mustache at the time I was nominated, so I just thought it might be fun," explained Silverman, who described her 'stache look as "a feminine Burt Reynolds."

Also having fun behind the scenes: Tina Fey and her 30 Rock co-star Jane Krakowski, who put on "crazy glasses" backstage. Fey said 30 Rock's win as Best Comedy is "great for morale. Our crew works really hard and this acknowledgment means a lot to everyone." Fey was looking forward to her next day's shoot with guest star Betty White playing herself." Also coming on for a guest appearance: her former SNL Weekend Update co-anchor Jimmy Fallon.

At The Office table, John Kraskinski and Ricky Gervais were acting like bad little boys, laughing at naughty photos taken on a cell phone. Across the table, Jenna Fischer exchanged kisses with fiance Lee Kirk.

Nearby, Lost boys Terry O'Quinn, Daniel Dae Kim and Jorge Garcia toasted co-star Michael Emerson's win. "I was so stoked when they called his name that I jumped out of my seat," said Garcia, who credits Emerson's victory to last season's tense scene when Emerson's Ben killed O'Quinn's John Locke. "When they filmed that scene they knew they were making magic."
