Despite a top-notch cast (including Harvey Keitel, Michael Imperioli and Jason O’Mara) and inspiration (a BBC hit),
Life on Mars, ABC’s sci-fi crime show about a 2008 cop stranded in 1973, will end its run on April 1.
Loyal fans will be rewarded with the answers to why Det. Sam Tyler (O'Mara) was transported to the groovy era and connected with the cops of the 125th precinct, promises executive producer Josh Appelbaum. The truth about Hyde — Sam's presumed previous precinct — will also be revealed. "We will go to Hyde," the producer says. "We will learn what it is and what it looks like."
"Everything we did is completely justified," Appelbaum continues. "It’s one of those endings I believe will make you want to watch the series again, because you’ll see that we’ve given you very distinct clues that will come together.”
The finale begins with Sam on a quest to save his kidnapped 4-year-old self and ends in another time, Appelbaum reveals. And Sam’s not in a coma like the Brit version, he adds. “This could not be further from that.”
