The
Private Practice doctors are in the business of miracles on and off screen. On Sept. 21, the show’s actors brought their bedside manner to The American Cancer Society's Blow Out Cancer event. Kate Walsh and company gathered at Spago in Beverly Hills to celebrate cancer survivors and, of course, the show’s new season.
“It’s like a freight train once the season takes off,” said Walsh. “We hit the ground running with the cliffhanger. We resolve that in the first episode.”
“If you’ve got Amy Brenneman on a show, you don’t kill her,” laughed Chris Lowell. “You kill me off or maybe Taye [Diggs], but not Amy Brenneman.”
“I don’t think I’m letting a secret out by saying she is coming back,” added Paul Adelstein. “The question is, “For how long?”’
“Let’s just say Violet is a disaster area,” added Tim Daly. “It’s fantastic that the characters on
Private Practice cut her so much slack because she is a stone cold mess.”
But don’t expect the drama to begin and end with Violet’s battered body and crazy patient. “In the third episode, we have Chandra Wilson coming over for a very intense, timely medical case,” divulged Walsh. “She comes down and there’s a lot of action there. There’s some great relationship sparks between her and Sam.”
Could there be more than one familiar face on the horizon? While tightlipped co-stars like Daly and Strickland played coy, Adelstein was more forthcoming. “You’ll see a Seattle Grace doctor or
two in Los Angeles,” he said. “There will be a little crossing over between
Grey’s and
Private Practice this year.”
“I want to be on their show,” joked Daly. “I want them to figure out a way to get me to Seattle. I’d like to go play with those people.”
For the time being, Walsh is excited about present company. “There’s a lot of stuff between Addison and Sam this year,” she revealed. “I get to play with the fabulous Taye Diggs, which is always awesome. He’s secretly the funniest man in America. You’ll get to see his sense of humor come out more and more. I think we’ve got a great chemistry.”
Might
Private Practice do a
Dancing with the Stars-esque episode? “I pitched [Addison] taking tango lessons or a dance class with some hot dance instructor or something,” teased Walsh, “but I don’t know if Shonda [Rhimes] is going to go for it.”
Jokes aside, those worried about Dr. Charlotte King’s firing can rest easy. “She’s a very powerful, little critter,” said Strickland. “I think a place of power is a place you may see her. You’ll just have to watch and see.”
Private Practice premieres tonight at 10/9c on ABC.
