Mr. de la Fuente Goes to Washington
Cristián de la Fuente may be steaming up the screen every week as Mary McCormack’s boyfriend on USA’s hit show
In Plain Sight, but his new passion may be taking him into the Washington beltway. de la Fuente and other celebrities are lobbying for a new government bill, C.A.R.S. (Consumer Assistance to Recycle and Save Program), which will reward people who turn in their old gas-guzzling vehicles with vouchers up to $4500.
“The people that have these cars that use a lot of gas are Latinos, and I can get this message across to them,” de la Fuente tells
TV Guide Magazine. “Many times, we don’t have to the money to buy a new car. If they can get some cash out of it for a newer and better car, it’s a great opportunity.”
The flood of enthusiasm for the program has lead to the emergence of
Cash For Clunkers, a consumer information site to educate the public. President Obama officially signed the bill into law on June 25th, but de la Fuente says he doesn’t have any plans to discuss the issue with the President for now.
“If I’m invited, yeah, I can’t go if they don’t invite me!” de la Fuente says. “I will help in any way that I can. If I have to do it in Spanish, I’ll do it, in English, I’ll do it. If I have to learn another language, I’ll try.”
As for the current season of
In Plain Sight, de la Fuente says fans will not have to wait much longer for Raphael’s second proposal to Mary.
“It’s coming and I know the outcome,” de la Fuente teases. “This proposal has a much better ending, it’s better. We’ll see how long it will last, but hopefully it will last longer then the two seconds it lasted the first season.”
