Lisa Edelstein Talks House
by Carrie Bell  October 05, 2009 10:17 AM EST

After years of wondering “will they or won’t they”, House's Lisa Edelstein warns fans that her Dr. Cuddy and Hugh Laurie's Dr. House are no closer to getting together now than they were before House's breakdown last season.

“Her star employee is coming back [to the hospital], but she is having a very hard time getting her groove back with him. She and House are never in the same place at the same time emotionally,” Edelstein told TV Guide Magazine at a fundraiser last Saturday in Hollywood for the Best Friends Animal Society, a charity she has been working with for almost 13 years. “He has gone off and learned some important stuff about himself and she stayed and learned stuff about herself so they are in different places when they meet again. I’m not sure where it is going to go from here.”

Throughout the series, Cuddy has usually been the one who wanted to take things to the next level but Edelstein thinks she is the one questioning the coupling’s chances now.

“I think he genuinely cares about Cuddy and is very interested in being with Cuddy, but her point of view has changed. Cuddy has a baby. She needs a reliable guy. Of course, I always think I need a reliable guy too, but I try that and then can’t stay interested for that long. I’m not sure doing what you think you should do and doing the right thing always works. Just because you go for the guy you intellectually think is right for you and avoid the one everyone warns you about doesn’t mean you’ll be happy.”

Edelstein is happy about another change this season — the increased reintegration of House’s original team. “I love it that the original gang is doing more this season. Next week ‘s episode is a particularly good one for Jesse [Spencer]. It is nice to see those guys and work with them more often. Robert and I just trudge along and do our thing while everyone else has been up and down and fired and rehired and fired again. I guess it pays to be in charge of the hospital.”

Unfortunately being the boss of the fictional Princeton-Plainsboro does not mean she knows everything that is going on behind the scenes. When asked about the recent rumors that original cast member Jennifer Morrison will be exiting the series in November, she wouldn’t comment. “I don’t really know what is going on or why or if it is official. So I would prefer to keep my nose out of it and let the folks involved speak about it when they are ready.”
