Here’s your exclusive first look at the still-under-construction set of
The Tonight Show with Conan O’Brien, shaping up on the newly built Stage 1 at Universal Studios.
“I don’t think it's going to blow anybody’s mind or anything,” says Conan’s once-and-future sidekick Andy Richter, who still doesn’t know where he’s going to sit, or if he’ll even be allowed on the furniture.
The stage, twice the size of Conan’s old
Late Night studio in New York, and with a 25-foot-high doorway, is big enough for just about anything, including circus animals and Conan’s hair.
“It kind of evokes Art Deco,” Richter says, being momentarily serious, “and what I like about it is it reminds people a little bit of Rockefeller Center. For me, it’s almost a subliminal ramping up and acknowledgment of the history of
The Tonight Show. Also red hair looks nice against blue. So there’s a lot of blue.”
