Debi Mazar on Her Dancing Woes
by Carita Rizzo  September 24, 2009 10:50 AM EST

This week, Debi Mazar debuted her dizzy feet on Dancing With the Stars, but her foxtrot ended in more than just applause. The actress recently tweeted that she had torn a muscle in her neck and is now wearing a neck brace. Just a few days before the season opener, TV Guide Magazine caught up with Mazar to discuss the road to the premiere that had already left her black and blue. “I'm bruised everywhere, my feet are sore, I've taken to wearing flats when I'm not dancing, and my body is sore in places I never imagined I even had a muscle,” she told us at Kate Somerville’s Emmy Event on September 18. In fact, the foxtrot was already causing her problems. “We do this thing where you're in a frame and you're looking to the second balcony and this muscle, I don't know what it's called, but it's killing me. I've had my moments feeling like, ‘Why am I doing this?’ But my partner Maksim is incredible and he's hard on me and that’s why I’m happy to train with him. He's made me really focused.”

Mazar told us she’d had no problems implementing the new training rules, mainly because she wouldn’t have had the stamina to train for more than five hours a day. And when she wasn’t dancing, the actress squeezed in a guest appearance on Castle. Starting October, she plays Castle’s book agent, who she says shares more than a professional past with the author. “I've been his agent for 12 years, apparently,” she reveals. “They’ve had sex once or twice before, so now we’re friends and we can hang out.” Working with Nathan Fillion, says Mazar, has been a blast. “Nathan Fillion is a gentleman, he had my car washed for me while I was working. He's really cute - and he is single by the way. He's just an actor that comes to work prepared.”

Odds are we will be seeing three hours of Debi Mazar on Mondays throughout the fall –should she last on DWTS. ”They told me [the Castle role] could be recurring. I’ll believe it when the offer comes in.”

In the meantime Mazar focuses on dancing, and staying off the blogs. “I started reading the stuff when it came out and some of it was mean, like “Debi Mazar is ancient and so is Madonna – they should stay in the grave” and I thought, ‘F--- you - I’m early 40s and I feel fabulous!’”
