Can Christina Applegate tweet
Samantha Who? back to life? For the past week the star of the cancelled ABC sitcom has been using Twitter to ask fans for help in bringing her show back for a third season. “I am getting a ton of grief for my shameless plugging,” Applegate tweeted on May 22. “Silly. I say why the heck not. I have time on my hands now.”
While fans rallying to keep their favorite shows on the tube is common—and have even saved such shows as
Chuck and the now-extinct
Jericho—it’s not every day a show’s star spearheads the anti-cancellation campaign. But since her
first tweet on May 21st Applegate has gained more than 6,000 followers, and she’s aiming for many more. “Ultimate goal 1million. Save Samantha trending topic. Crazy? yes. Impossible? Anything is possible,” Applegate posted on May 25th.
And
Samantha fans aren’t making Applegate do all the work. Most of the actress’ updates link to an
online petition, which has gathered gathered more than 13,000 signatures. “I have to say, I have never felt so supported,” she tweeted. “I'm moved by all of you. Had no idea that you all were out there! xo.”
Does Twitter have the power to save
Samantha—or any cancelled show for that matter? Will you follow Applegate and tweet for
Samantha’s survival?
