Candace Cameron Bure Returns to TV
By Carita Rizzo  June 22, 2009 08:56 AM EST

Acting on a show about competitive sports is no stretch for Candace Cameron Bure. As the wife of retired hockey player Valeri Bure, the former Full House actress has been immersed in the sports world for years. So while at first the mother of three didn’t jump at the chance to take on a full time job, she decided she couldn’t turn down ABC Family’s new drama, Make It or Break It.

“I wasn’t planning on going into another series, because it’s really important for me to be a stay-at-home mom and be with my kids,” she tells TV Guide Magazine. “But when they came to me and asked me to be a part of it, they had already done the pilot. I watched it and I really liked the concept.”

The show, which premieres June 22 at 9/8c, follows Olympic hopefuls in the world of competitive gymnastics. “I’ve been in the sports world for the past 13 years with my husband being a professional athlete, so although it’s a different sport, I felt it kind of hit close to home,” Cameron Bure says, adding that “it’s a cool show about a lot of relationships.” She plays the girlfriend of one of the contestants’ fathers. “Lauren, the gymnast, is not a very nice girl. She’s kind of the nasty one of the bunch, and she has it out for me. It’s fun to be able to play a nice person and yet you still get that meanness from the other character."

The actress knows a thing or two about competition between kids, having grown up in show business, but says she would allow her children to act if they showed an interest. “My daughter certainly does,” says Cameron Bure. “I’m not pushing it, but if she wants to try, I don’t have a problem with it. I think we have a good sense of the business and know how to navigate through some of the dangerous places. I feel like I came out okay and have a grounded sense of reality so I hope to pass that on to my children.”
