10 Things You Didn't Know About Spencer Grammer
by Scott Huver  August 27, 2009 02:55 PM EST

A popular ensemble TV series featuring a scene-stealing star whose last name is Grammer – sound familiar? Think again. Twenty-five-year-old Spencer Grammer (the daughter of TV icon Kelsey) is making her own mark in show business as the leading lady on ABC Family’s fraternity/sorority series Greek. As the show prepares to launch its third season August 31, Grammer reveals ten things you might not know about her.

Being a “legacy” wasn’t a factor in her bid to break into the biz
“I'd been auditioning for a few years before I'd gotten [Greek], and I was on a soap before. So I feel like [my last name] has never been something that's hindered me from getting a job, but I don't think that it's something that actually helps you get it. It might get you in the door, but it's always usually who's the best person for that part.”

Don’t confuse her with sorority queen Casey Cartwright
“Casey is definitely a much more bubbly girly-girl. I'm kind of more of a laid-back tomboy. Most of the time I would never wear any of the clothes that my character wears. I was more like punk rock in high school. I had really short spiky hair at one point and was always kind of rebellious. Casey was the popular girl. I'm still funny, but more in a crass and sarcastic way.”

You won’t find her in tabloids alongside Young Hollywood’s clubbing crowd
“I feel like the paparazzi only know, like, five people. They know Brody Jenner or anyone from The Hills. I get recognized rarely. Sometimes I'll be in Malibu and they'll catch me, but that's kind of boring because there's really not any nightclubs there.”

She’s about to ditch her workaholic ways to indulge in some wanderlust
“We're always working in the summer, and all my friends take off and go travel across the world and I can't join them. But I think I'm planning a trip for September. I have a mini-hiatus, so I'm going to try and go to Spain. I didn't study abroad in school because I was working. So now I'm like, I'll just make money later and then I'll travel.”

She’ll (hopefully) soon be a home owner
“I'm looking for a house. That's been my main focus for the last few months. I'm really excited about it. I'm excited to have my own space and a place that I feel happy in and do the things to it that I want.”

She’s in touch with her fans
“I always end up talking to fans for a while. They always to know if Casey and Cappie are going to get back together and I always can't tell them. They're like, 'I love you guys. Why aren't you guys together?' That's the number one question. The other question that people ask me is if my dad really talks the way he does on TV, but I don’t get that as much anymore.”

Her dad gives good advice
“The best advice that he gave me for my career is to always be honest. I guess it's sort of the same for life, but always be honest and truthful in what you do. He always said that if you give them a moment of truth in an audition, you will get the part. Honesty is a really important part of my family—and trust. They're sort of one and the same. You can't trust someone who isn't honest with you.”

She single and not quite looking at the moment
“I was in a long relationship that I just got out of a few months ago, so I've just been trying to get my stuff together. I'd like to meet someone nice, get married and have kids eventually. Not now, but someday maybe. Maybe not – I haven't really decided yet. I'm on the fence. It seems like it could be a blessing and a curse, as most things in life are.”

She and her co-stars share a very collegiate bond
“It's just a very warm environment to come into, and I feel very blessed and lucky, particularly because all the actors are relatively young. We're all in our twenties and it's kind of all of our first show. I'm sure we'll be bonded for life, and we'll look back and feel nostalgic about our days spent on the set of Greek. We'll be like, ‘Why isn't it like that anymore?'”

Dad is busting his buttons over her success
“I always knew she'd do well,” says Spencer’s father, Kelsey Grammer. “It’s gratifying and satisfying to offer a life to a child and to watch them grow up and to see them come to fruition and flourish. It's still a work in progress. I'm very proud of her. If she'd had been an astronaut I would've been happy.”
