Sex and the City star
Willie Garson, who plays Carrie's best gay pal, Stanford Blatch, has made an addition to his home. After years of false hopes, he has nearly finalized adoption of an eight year old son named Nathan. "He moved in with me in February," says Willie. "He's going into third grade, plays baseball, goes to karate and has a posse of pals." Willie and Nathan are moving from L.A., where the boy grew up, to New York City, where Willie will shoot "Sex and the City 2," as well as his new USA Network series
White Collar. "I'm going to be able to do both at the same time." Willie previously told me that he'd been informed by
Sex screenwriter Michael Patrick King that
Sex 2 would find Stanford getting married to the man of his dreams. But now the actor has been given a gag order. "I can't really talk about it -- we had to sign legal documents," he says. "But I just read the script and it's glorious. The fans will love it. The movie is very reflective of the current culture."
As for his son, Willie says Nathan's biological mother will be allowed visits. "For many reasons, she couldn't care for him, but I will never let her not see him," he says.
Originally, Willie wanted to adopt a 3-year-old before falling in love with Nathan at an adoption fair. "They're held in secret locations. It's like a pet fair -- as horrifying as you can imagine. It was really hard. The 16-year-old fat ugly kid, who has probably been to thirty of these, knows he's not going to get adopted. Like everything else, cute wins. I couldn't believe my kid was actually available for adoption. He's so cute and sweet. "
Willie allowed Nathan to see him in one episode of
Sex and the City, but most episodes are too adult for him. Instead, Nathan has watched his new dad's appearances on Disney Channel shows,
Wizards of Waverly Place and
Imagination Movers. "I think he's going to be freaked out when we go to New York, where (the
Sex cast) are like the Yankees," predicts the actor. "We can't walk 20 feet without being mobbed."
