Modern Family has narrowed down its short list of actors to play Jay Pritchett's (Ed O'Neill) best pal, Shorty.
Chazz Palminteri, who often plays a mobster but got laughs in Woody Allen's 1994 comedy "Bullets Over Broadway," will face off with Jay on the golf course in a winter episode involving a big gay misunderstanding.
Expect Jay's gay son and son-in-law to figure in prominently.
