Is the cast of
Dexter preparing to take on Broadway? In the September 27 season premiere, Dexter (
Michael C. Hall) breaks out into “America the Beautiful” as an impromptu lullaby to his newborn son, Harrison.
Later in the season, it’s Dexter’s very happy wife, Rita (
Julie Benz), doing the singing. “I’m rocking out in the car with Dexter and our baby, singing a little ’80s Culture Club—‘Karma Chameleon,’” Julie says. “She’s got everything she wants in life—the perfect husband, the new baby, the house in suburbia….” Julie’s just hoping Rita’s happiness will last, admitting, “I worry every day, ‘Is this the season I’m going to die?’”
Could be, with the addition of Oscar nominee
John Lithgow as celebrated serial killer, Arthur Mitchell, who’ll also get in on the songfest. Dexter will spy Arthur in a church singing the hymn, “Are You Washed in the Blood?” (Cheery, ain’t it?) Arthur also recites a phrase to his victims just before taking their lives. “He says, ‘It’s already over,’” reveals Lithgow. “I know why he says it, but I’m not going to tell you.” We know—if he did, he’d have to kill us.
