Brothers & Sisters Adds a New Character
By William Keck  July 22, 2009 01:23 PM EST

ABC’s Brothers & Sisters will add a medical-school study partner for Justin (Dave Annable)—a 16-year-old straight-A student whiz kid (think Doogie Howser) The as-yet-uncast character, potentially of East Indian decent, will challenge Justin’s confidence and cause him to question his priorities.

And when Rachel Griffiths returns as Sarah following her real-life maternity leave, she will be bringing with her something very special. She will briefly be seen in the season premiere, which will explain that Sarah endured a terrible summer of on-line dating and retreated to France for a much-needed vacation. When she lands back in California, on her arm will be gorgeous actor Gilles Marini (Sex and the City, Dancing With the Stars) as her new French beau. Per executive producer Monica Breen, Gilles’ character (who is still awaiting a name) will “make Sarah really think about her views on men. He will be an amazing challenge for her.” Co-producer Molly Newman adds that he will also figure into Sarah’s business dealings at Ojai Foods.
