Greek life isn’t all about keggers and mixers. Although those things do play an important part of the whole college experience, ABC Family’s hit collegiate dramedy
Greek wants to show fans the more fulfilling side of fraternity and sorority life. Through a year-long partnership between
Greek and
DoSomething.org, young people will be encouraged to take action in their communities.
TV Guide Magazine quizzes Scott Michael Foster, who plays Cappie—the cooler than cool president of Kappa Tau—about his involvement in the
"Pledge Yourself to Do Something" campaign. And for extra credit, he offers us a tease as to what’s coming up this season on
Greek.
You’ve pledged yourself to do something for Cancer for College…That’s right, we’re doing this for DoSomething.org. Jacob Zachar (Rusty), Aaron Hill (The Beaver) and I went to the Cancer for College banquet in San Diego, which was hosted by Will Ferrell and Craig Pollard, who started the charity. We auctioned off a day to come to the set and meet the cast. We raised a good amount of money for the charity.
That must have been a feel-good moment! Our whole goal is just to get people to go to DoSomething.org or ABCFamily.com and sign up to do something—pledge yourself! I think a lot of people think the fraternities and sororities don’t do anything philanthropic when in reality [they do] and we’re trying to show that on
Greek. Spread the word!
You’re three seasons in, is Greek still fun to do?Absolutely! It’s a really fun show to shoot and I think all the cast is really excited to be [there]. We’re all good friends and we all hang out together, so it doesn’t feel like work at all.
And this Monday you’re living every young man’s fantasy when the oh so sexy Attack of the Show co-host Olivia Munn guests…Yeah, yeah, she was awesome—a really sweet and funny girl!
Give us the deets about Cappie and Munn’s character, Lana…Evan and Cappie get a job and she’s working with them. Cappie pushes Lana’s buttons and she doesn’t like it, until she finally realizes she kind of likes him.
Opposites attract?Exactly, but they find out it’s not exactly opposites in the end.
Any chance of Cappie and Casey getting together sometime soon?I always thought they should be together I don’t know how long it’s going to be. I hope not too long, because the fans definitely want to see it. I think it would be fun to have those characters back together again, but who knows?
For several characters, including Cappie, there’s only one semester left until graduation—is this going to be the longest semester ever, or will the show follow their post-graduate lives?I think
Greek absolutely pertains to life outside of college—the ties between people. I don’t know exactly what’s going to happen, but [the seniors] will still be involved. You’ll still be able to follow us after college.
Do you and Cappie share much in common?I get that question all the time and I never know how to answer it. Obviously I bring a certain amount of myself to Cappie, but I don’t know how to compare myself to what someone is writing.
Well, would you be friends with him in real life?Oh, sure. That’s a good way to put it. I would definitely be friends with him…I mean, who wouldn’t want to be friends with that guy?
According to your Wikipedia bio, you only went to college for one semester…I only went to college for a matter of four months or so. It just wasn’t my thing. I was at a community college and I was studying theater, stage movement and voice. I was like, “I really love all this stuff, but I feel like I could just go out and do it, instead of study it.” I just left and went to LA and here I am now.
And you can live the college life via Greek!Absolutely. We get to experience a lot of Greek life on the show and we don’t have to do any schoolwork, so that’s a win-win.
Cappie’s idea of a good time is throwing a wild frat party. What do you do for fun?I play billiards. I like to sing karaoke at certain establishments here in Hollywood. I play racquetball, sort of a sport from the ‘80s that I’m trying to bring back. And I shoot a little Web series with my neighbor—it’s about how we’re bros. It’s not on the Internet yet, but it will be in a few months.
You do more than just sing karaoke…you’re in a band too, right?I’ve been working with my band,
Sirens Eye, for a few years. We play around town in Hollywood. We play experimental rock. Our main influences are like Muse and Radiohead.
If you weren’t an actor, what would you do?Before I got the show I was working at Starbucks or waiting tables. I always thought I need to make ends meet being an actor and I finally did. Hopefully, that will continue. [
Laughs] I don’t really have a fallback plan.
