The Heart of Modern Family
November 19, 2009 10:37 AM EST

Cheers to Modern Family for giving Julie Bowen a chance to cut loose. Her character, Claire Dunphy, has mostly functioned as the still, sane center around which her more outlandish relatives rotate. But when Claire impulsively hired the bassist from '80s pop band Spandau Ballet (a refreshingly silly Edward Norton) to serenade hubby Phil (Ty Burrell) on their anniversary, we got to see how "True"-ly crazy—and crazy about him—she is. (No matter that their song was actually "If You Leave" by Orchestral Manoeuvres in the Dark). Bowen's been a reliably appealing performer for the past decade on shows ranging from Ed to Lost, and we couldn't be happier that she's finally found the perfect TV Family.

Has Julie Bowen won you over?
